  • What do you do with the money?

The money goes directly to Indigenous people of the Chesapeake region. Funds are split evenly among ten families who have consented to receive land tax. Stripe takes out payment processing fees, and unfortunately there's no way around that, but apart from that, every dollar goes to the families. You can help minimize processing fees by paying via ACH and by avoiding making lots of small payments; if money's tight, save it and make larger payments, less often.

  • Who are you? Are you Indigenous?

Like many of you, I'm a colonizer on Piscataway Conoy Territory. I come from the first and most violent colonizers on this land (Lord Baltimore, among many others). Returning what was taken is the responsibility of the colonizer. So, in relationship with people of this territory, this project moves in that direction. I hope you'll join me in expanding this effort to reach everyone who's ready to do what's right.

  • How many Piscataway people are left?

I don't know, but there sure are a lot of white people who can't mind their business. Do you want a number that is low enough that you won't feel threatened? High enough that you won't feel guilty? (Yes, this was a setup.)

  • Do you have a calculator that will tell me how much to pay?

No. And if we did, it would probably lead you down the garden path and then just output $1 trillion no matter what. Point being, a calculator only serves colonizers' egos to feel like we're doing "good enough" when Native people here are still living in a post-apocalyptic genocidal hellscape all arranged for our constant benefit.
